We can organise many different excursions for you to enjoy from both Mombasa and Nairobi. Our professional guides will pick up and drop off at City hotels, please note the price differs in Mombasa between South and North coast hotels.

Nairobi


Nairobi City Tour and Karen Blixen Museum

This is an excellent opportunity to see the highlights of our “Green City in the Sun”. Our tour visits the National Museum, Nairobi’s famous snake park, the Parliament buildings, Kenyatta Conference Centre and many more of Nairobi’s historical buildings. Continue to the house of famous novelist Karen Von Blixen, immortalised in the film ‘Out of Africa’ which is now a museum. Finally the tour will stop at the Utamaduni Craft Centre for a great shopping experience of Kenyan made artefacts (Departure: 1400 HRS, 4 Hours approximate, US $90 per person).

 

Carnivore Restaurant – Lunch or dinner

Enjoy lunch or dinner at the popular Carnivore Restaurant, a meat speciality restaurant referred to as the ultimate ‘Beast of a feast’! The restaurant was twice voted amongst the world’s 50 best restaurants by an expert panel in ‘Restaurant’ magazine. Whole joints of meat-legs of lamb and pork, ostrich, rumps of beef, sirloins, racks of lamb, spare ribs, skewered kidneys even crocodile and other tasty morsels are roasted on traditional Maasai swords over a huge, spectacular charcoal pit that dominates the entrance to the restaurant. With the meats cooked before you and carved at your table, with delicious side dishes you can’t go far wrong with this fixed price that also includes soup, a selection of desserts and Kenyan coffee. Set in tropical gardens, the service, décor and experience are all not to be missed! (Departure: 1230 HRS or 1900 HRS, US $70 per person).

Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and lunch at Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant

Visit the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust situated on the outskirts of the Nairobi National Park to see orphaned elephant calves raised by Dame Sheldrick and her team of enthusiastic carers. See the calves at the baths and hear from keepers how they have been rescued, raised and their plans to release them back into the wild. Continue towards the Ngong Hills and through the residential area of Langata for lunch at Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant. Lunch at Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant and Giraffe Centre

Depart towards the Ngong Hills through the residential area of Langata for lunch at Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. The excursion will then continue towards the Ngong Hills and through the residential area of Langata to the Giraffe Centre, where the offspring of Daisy (the famous Rothschild Giraffe) can be seen and fed! (Departure: 1200 HRS, US $95 per person)

Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage Packages

The orphanage is a real highlight and extremely popular amongst visitors to Nairobi, because of this we can do all sorts of excursions for you with this as the highlight. Choose between visiting the elephant orphanage with lunch at the Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden, the orphanage and the Giraffe Centre ($75) or all three so you don’t miss a thing! Our 5 hour excursion visits the orphanage, with lunch and a trip to the Giraffe Centre ($110) with all departures at 1000 HRS.

Mombasa


Our excursions from Mombasa are hugely popular and aren’t to be missed during your visit, prices vary depending on pick up location (North or South Coast hotels, see for our current pricing).

The Mombasa City Half Day Tour

Pick ups from your hotel will be early in the morning before heading to the Rhino Safaris Offices in town, where other excursion goers will rendezvous, you will meet your dedicated tour guide and the City Tour will begin. From the office the excursion will drive to the ‘Boabab Forest’ located along Mama Ngina Drive, near the Likoni Ferry crossing. Here the tour will stop for picture taking of these fascinating trees, some of which are centuries old. The tour then ventures along Mama Ngina Drive, past the Mombasa Golf Club, the State House which is the Mombasa Presidential residence, the Mombasa Law Courts and end up at the Moi Avenue with the giant metal ‘Elephant tusks’. The tusks were erected in 1952 during the colonial days in honour of a visit to Mombasa by then the Royal princess who is now the Queen of England, Elizabeth the second. From here the drive will head from Mombasa to the Western main-land to visit the largest Handicraft Industry in the East Africa region. After this you will leave the Akamba Industry and drive back to the Mombasa Island, to visit the local market, this is a beehive of activity where the locals flock to buy fruits, vegetables and spices. Then onto visit the old town firstly seeing the ‘Old Port’ or ‘Dhow Harbour’ where early traders from Persia, Oman and as far as India used to anchor their dhows to discharge their goods. The tour will then walk through the narrow streets of old town to see the ancient Aran buildings. This walk will bring you to the imposing and magnificent centuries old Portuguese Fortress, built in the late 16th Century as a military stronghold, a brief history and a visit to the museum will mark the end of the tour. The Mombasa City Tour Full Day

This tour includes the morning with all that is included in the half day tour, after which the tour will continue on to lunch, this will be either on board the Tamarind Dhow to enjoy sailing around Mombasa Island, or at the exotic Tamarind Restaurant. Immediately after lunch, the drive will continue to Haller Park and go for a nature walk to see different types of flora and fauna, wild animals and reptiles. The highlights of this tour is the feeding of the wild animals such as the giraffe and hippo. This was once a limestone quarry for the nearby cement factory. In the spirit of nature conservation efforts, the factory engaged the services of renowned conservationist Dr. Rene Haller who turned the quarry into a beautiful park. This last visit marks the end of the full day programme, after which you will enjoy a transfer back to your hotel. (US $129 per person).

Full Day Shimba Hills Excursion

You will be picked up after an early breakfast and drive up the beautiful and scenic Shimba Hills climbing from an altitude of 10 feet to nearly 1,476 feet above sea level in a matter of half an hour. Drive through Kwale township before entering Shimba Hills National Reserve with its forests, hills, clearances, in search of the varied animal species that reside in this beautiful reserve. Elephant, buffalo, sable antelope (the only area in East Africa where this antelope is found), bush bucks, water bucks, giraffe, spotted hyena, warthogs, baboons and over 200 bird species have been spotted in the Shimba Hills.
At midday the tour will drive to the unique and award winning Shimba Hills Tree Lodge, hidden in thick rainforest and overlooking a waterhole. Lunch is served in the covered veranda opening on one side to see any visiting animals drink at the waterhole. After lunch you can relax in the lounge or take a walk on the wooden walkway that extends 120m into the tropical rainforest.
Leaving the lodge the tour will drive in the National Reserve, also visiting the two view points with breath taking vistas over the coastline and its tiny islands south of Mombasa. The tour will then leave the reserve and drive down to the coast transferring to your hotel. ($155 per person)

La Marina Dhow Adventure

The Tamarind Dhow

Late afternoon pick up from your hotel where you will be whisked away to the private jetty of Tamarind Restaurant where you will board their traditional Arab sailing dhow. Enjoy a sunset cruise towards Mombasa Old Town and Fort Jesus towering majestically above the historical dhow harbour. Sit back, relax and enjoy a perfect blend of modern and traditional music as you sail into the night. Passing beneath the lights of Nyali bridge we head for the tranquil waters of Tudor Creek where the anchor is dropped to savour the delights of all the restaurant has to offer, famous for their seafood Swahili gently cooked in coconut and spices, filled steaks or fresh grilled local lobster. After dinner to the backdrop of moonlight and stars the saxophone rings out across Tudor Creek and the dancefloor beckons. Returning to the jetty around 10:30pm where transport awaits to take you back to your hotel,(prices from US $110 per person).
