Safari Lodge

Demand for safaris can be very high and in peak months it may be necessary to use alternative lodges of a similar standard or re-route itineraries.

Standard of accommodation on safari is high and all bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, including tented camps. Single rooms are available at a supplementary cost

Your accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, so all of your meals are included. You will need to pay extra for drinks, laundry, tips and telephone calls.

The safari lodges and camps offer a good choice of high quality cuisine, based on international tastes along side traditional East African flavours. Generally all meals are buffet style

Many of the lodges have themed nights where local dishes are prepared for guests to sample. These might include ugali, a dish of mashed maize, or nyama choma, a ‘bush meat’ dish featuring local game such as ostrich or zebra. these dishes will be offered alongside more familiar European cuisine

Kenya is renowned for its coffee, as well as its tea, so be sure to try these whenever possible

Morning game drives usually set out at around 7am, giving you the opportunity to grab a very quick bite before you leave (breakfast at the lodges usually begins at 6.30am). On most itineraries you should arrive back at the lodge in time for a ‘main’ breakfast, if required

Water is on sale at the lodges and you should take some with you each time you go out on a game drive

The Tarangire Sopa Lodge opened in 1995 and overlooks Tarangire Hill. The all-suite accommodation includes a bedroom, small sitting room, bathroom and private verandah with views across the Baobob-studded landscape. A large swimming pool provides relief in the heat of the day.

Opened in 1992 and recently rennovated, the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge offers all suite accommodation. The suites all face towards the Ngorongoro Crater and include a bedroom, sitting room, bathroom along with a glazed balcony with views down onto the crater floor. Temperatures can be cool here and the swimming pool on the edge of the crater can be an especially bracing experience, but suites are centrally-heated to warm you up afterwards. The bar and dining rooms are built around huge circular fire places providing warmth and atmosphere.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge is perched in the Nyarboro Hills, with commanding views across the plains of the Serengeti. All accommodation is suite-based, which means guests have a spacious bedroom, sitting room and bathroom, along with a private verandah. The lodge opened in 1992 and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. A wide range of services and facilities are available for guests, including a large swimming pool.
